I love Bob Dylan and House and every time I say that in the presence of young people their eyebrows become like centipedes. They are shocked, because their perception is that one has to be stoned in order to enjoy this music. Notwithstanding Bob Dylan got the noble prize for poetry.
I do not want to digress from my topic, which is that in the practice of Tantra, there is a fair amount of experimentation. The ancient sages smoked hashish and drank soma. They did this to transform their minds. Their minds became open and nonjudgmental and the quality of their mind changed. This reflected in their actions, which also changed.
So the experience which so many youth chase is not to be about being in a trance but how is the process to be used in creating self-awareness. And that is not essential as so many of us have advanced in our sadhana without stimulants. It is always a choice and our perception and belief.
The Yogic sadhana will make one a true seeker, and one will be able to defeat one’s inner enemies and become one’s own master.
