Should we not remember our loved ones? How is it possible that we do not think of the people we care for? Do they slip out of our mind and we need the advertising and marketing companies to remind us that we love our parents, our children and mother nature? What about all the gifts that are shown on the internet, newspapers and billboards? And the happy look on the face of the loved ones, when they receive a gift.
When I grew up, we did not have Mother’s and Father’s days. When I had my sons, we still did not celebrate these days. Now it is like an epidemic and we all have joined the race.
So why am on this rant, dear ones. I am not depriving you of the joy of buying a card or a gift for your loved ones. Does this action justify our misbehavior and misdeeds? By buying a gift on this day, do we make up for us ignoring our loved ones. By going shopping and shedding a few crocodile tears, does one become a wonderful child? I am not being judgmental, if only we followed the teachings of our parents, then each day is in their memory.
Every day is a celebration
Let me give you a list, it is my list and the list I gave to my sons.
- Tell the truth.
- Be kind.
- Be generous.
- Do not hurt any creature or being intentionally.
- Be respectful of your teachers and elders.
- Be helpful and compassionate.
If we just follow what we were taught and what our Gurus say, then every day is a celebration.
Of course, dear ones, you can always buy gifts to give to your loved ones. I am not depriving you of that joy, just remember to love, serve and give.
