We cannot live a life without faith and trust. One must never lose sight of these two words. One’s goal is to have trust in oneself and faith in the higher power. To be on the path of bhakti, one has to accept faith and trust as the foundation.
It is said in the Ramayana that in the absence of Shraddha (faith) and Vishwas (deep conviction), even great seekers cannot achieve spiritual attainment. Have faith in God and trust in yourself.
People are not aware of their strengths. They believe that they are weak and powerless, and they are filled with self-doubt. They find it difficult to complete a task and feel defeated even before the start. There is a lack of Sankalp shakti, power of resolve; Iccha shakti, power of will; and kriya shakti, power of action in life. Resolve comes with trust: trust in one’s own capacity and capability. – Swami Niranjananda Saraswati.
How does one develop Sankalp Shakti?
Sankalp Shakti comes with daily practice of one’s sadhana. It can be just chanting 11 times daily and this will lead to trust and strengthening of one’s own abilities. Faith is one’s eternal optimism and belief in the awakening of Divinity in oneself.
I will share a story of faith and trust with you. I was sitting in a garden and I saw a mother cat walking with her kitten on a wall. The mother cat jumped down and now the kitten was crying. The mother cat kept making comforting sounds and mews and finally the kitten jumped down, unhurt on her feet. The kitten had faith and trust in her mother. She knew that her mother would not let her down.
Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark. – Rabindranath Tagore
Trust is like the air we breathe – when it’s present, nobody really notices; when it’s absent everybody notices. – Warren Buffett
We need both to walk the path of Bhakti, devotion.
