I join my palms in prayer to Ma Prithvi and ask for forgiveness and blessings. I promise from the bottom of my heart; I will take care of you. I will try not to harm you by denuding the forests, adulterating the waters and making the environment toxic. I have done many things, without being aware of the damage caused to the flora and fauna.
I have thought of only myself and not you, Mother Earth, I have not treated you as I should have. I have compromised your ecological health and beauty. I will do my best to restore the pristine snows on the mountains. I will try to reverse climate change.
I know Mother that you have endurance and energy to effect transformation. After all there are creatures like the tarsier, which have survived 55 million years. It is our destructive habits that are trying to eliminate denizens like them.
I know that the industrial revolution and progress was essential. However, our greed and pride overtook the benefits. My tribe has advanced and developed too rapidly. We have not thought of the repercussions and endangerment of the other species. We are engaged in acts of violence and our forgetting about defending you. Teach us to protect all beings and then we will learn to protect ourselves. We must think of the common good.
We know that natural disasters occur because balance is to be restored. It is not a punishment meted out by you. We need to understand that all things are impermanent and we need to protect you, so that you remain your glorious self.
Mother Earth, view us with compassion and bless us with wisdom.
I will try to recite the Prithvi Gayatri Mantra daily.
Om Prithvi Deviyai Vidhmahe
Sahasra murhtaye cha
Dheemahi Thanno Prithvi Prachodayat.
Om, let me meditate on the goddess of Earth. May that Mother Prithvi of a thousand forms inspire and illumine our mind and understanding.
