Be still, be silent, be a witness

You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen, simply wait, be quiet still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to unmasked, it has no choice. – Franz Kafka

Dear ones, what Franz Kafka writes is the description of Kayam Sthairyam, Body Steadiness. This is the first step in Sadhana. All you have to do is to sit still. Breathe naturally in and out. You remain still and visualize yourself like a statue. Without external stillness, our awareness is ruled by our senses. We are attempting to shut our senses, without commanding them. Be aware of your body from the tip of your toes to the top of your head.

You are not forcing yourself, but you are a witness. Your awareness is on your breathing. You are aware of the sensation of your clothes on your body. Go through the different sensations of touch, your eyelashes, your teeth, your hair, the contact between your body and the floor. Contact between your body parts. Your eyes remain lightly closed. Listen to the sounds, be aware of them, but no recognition. Practice for twenty minutes.
