God lives in every part and pore of one’s body. It is believed according to science that there are millions of cells in the body, and each one contains intelligence. So, the power of God is in every cell. However, it lies dormant. All the Gods and Goddesses lie asleep in the body.
Since one does not practice meditation, one’s consciousness is limited to eating, drinking and other worldly activities. It is limited to Jagrita, Swapna and Sushupti. One is aware of only the three states of consciousness, and one is either awake, dreaming or sleeping. One is not aware of the fourth state of consciousness called Turiya, which is higher consciousness.
The wire of Turiya
This higher consciousness is acquired by practicing one pointedness of the mind. One slowly rises above the three states of Jagriti, Swapna and Sushupti during dhyana. Consciousness awakens within one and then the experiences are different. One understands the three states and the wire of turiya gets connected.
Daily sadhana on concentration leads to one pointedness and merging of the lower consciousness with the higher consciousness. Therefore, one can make the right decisions, when applying to one’s life and ongoing path of self-realization. One has to find one own’s method of dharana. It can be based on breath, sound, light or what one’s mind can focus on. Not more than ten minutes are required.
Dharana means that one’s mind is occupied by something for a given time. One is aware of what is happening around, of the external vibrations. It is very difficult to concentrate the mind. The mind is contained in the body and when the mind is concentrated, it affects the body and also affects the heart, the blood pressure and the brain.
Sadhana has to be performed in moderation, according to Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Also, one must keep in mind God’s name and being engaged in serving, giving and loving others.
