Law of Opposites and Yoga Nidra

How are we affected by the law of opposites. Prince Ram in the Yog Vasistha said to Sage Vashisht that he did not long to live and he did not long to die. He remained neutral about life as well as about death. Duality exists around us and there is uncharted space which Krishna describes as being free from opposites.

The karma yogis, who neither desire nor hate anything, should be considered always renounced. Free from all dualities, they are easily liberated from the bonds of material energy. – Gita 5.3

What does this mean?

As karma yogis continue to discharge their worldly duties while internally practicing detachment. Hence, they accept both positive and negative outcomes with equanimity, as the grace of God. God has designed the world so beautifully that it makes us experience both happiness and distress for our graded elevation. If we continue to lead our regular lives and tolerate whatever comes our way, while happily doing our duty, the world naturally pushes us towards gradual spiritual elevation.

When I read this, I was reminded of the practice of Yoga Nidra. Here we learn how to experience the opposites and now it is clear for me and for those of you who practice Yoga Nidra. As always, we have to return and remember the voice of our Maha Gurus, Swami Sivananda and Swami Satyananda. The karma yoga path is the route to awareness, self-reflection and self-realization.
