The festival of Colors is upon us

It is a festival as always celebrating the triumph of good over evil. It is called Holi; the spiritual meaning is God colors our souls with virtues. Even in chaos one can remain stable.

We play Holi with colors in India. The colors of Holi have significant meanings. These colors are found in Nature, the flowers, the birds and the sky. Red symbolizes fertility and love. Yellow is the color of turmeric and represents happiness, and prosperity. Green is for spring and renewal the departure of winter. Blue is for Krishna, Pink is for joy and friendship and Orange for enthusiasm, light and equality. The merging of colors means unity and atmabhava, love for our fellow beings.

A special Holi is celebrated in Mathura and Rajasthan. It is called Lathmar Holi (women hitting men with sticks playfully). It is so called because Barsana is where Radha was born and here the women chase men playfully with sticks. It is also remembering the Gopis playing Holi with Krishna.

All in all, it is lovely festival and keeping this in mind and playing with organic colors we can cleanse our souls with virtue. Then of course we eat delicious sweets after playing and some also have cannabis milkshakes called Thandai.
