Many of you are familiar with the German word, Innenwelt, which refers to the ‘inner world’. The inner world is the mental experience of the inner self which accompanies I. It can also be described as a mirror of oneself. It is a complicated and complex meaning and it manifests itself in one’s dreams.
In Hinduism, the mind is often described as a mirror that reflects the world around us. According to Sadhguru, it is only possible to know life if one gets to the other side of the mirror. There are many interpretations of the mirror of one’s mind. If one’s mind is thought free, one sees a clear reflection. If one’s is distressed and agitated, then the image is murky.
Maintain neutrality
It is also said that one gets attached to the images one sees, and attachment leads to bondage. One’s consciousness is like a mirror. Different images come and go. One likes some of them and wants to retain them. When one thinks of someone, their emotions get attached to one and are reflected in one’s behavior. Therefore, one has to maintain neutrality.
To understand one’s inner world, let us look at the quote from Hanuman Chalisa. It says,
I have polished the mirror of my heart with the dust of my Guru’s lotus feet, I will now recite the divine of fame of the greatest king of Raghu Kul dynasty, which bestows us with the fruit of all the four efforts.
According to Swami Satyananda Saraswati, one does not reach the highest experience by just closing the eyes and trying to control the mind. If the mirror is not clean, it is useless to clean one’s face. Purification of the self is the first rung in the ladders of spirituality. This happens when one develops the spirit of Karma Yoga.
Purity of mind means that the mind is free from the influence of samskara and manifest universe. When one’s mind becomes pure, clarity, concentration and purity arise. Then the clean mirror of one’s mind reflects one’s face, and one becomes free from doubts and thoughts.
Dear ones, bear in mind that we are also practicing Pratyahara and through this process now our Innenwelt is changing. It results in a balanced mind and a continuous process of elimination of karma.
