184 – Let us try to be like the wise old owl

A wise old owl sat in an oak,
The more he heard, the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard;
Why aren’t we all like that wise owl.

Owls are loved by so many of us. We associate them with wisdom and solitude. They resemble cats and for many of us that makes them more attractive. They do not hurt or harm us, only if we attempt to hurt them. This poem was written for kids, but it is so true. It refers to withdrawing our senses and heightening our awareness. We are drawn to their solitude.

“An owl is the wisest of all birds because the more it sees the less it talks.”

“Owls are known as lonely birds: but it is not known that they have the forest as their best friend.”

“Of all the horrid, hideous notes of woe, sadder than owl songs or the midnight blast, is that portentous phrase, I told you so.” Lord Byron.

“The crow wishes that everything was black, the owl wishes that everything was white at night.” William Blake.

“Why should I copy this owl, I might just as well try to trace a perfect circle.” Pablo Picasso.

Enjoy and apply.
