Self-Control
If your fortune is through the seven worlds to spread
Draw in your five senses as the tortoises does its head. – Verse 126The hurting word to the hurting man some instant joy may bring
But be sure it will return to sting the stinger’s sting. – Verse 128The blistering welt of a fiery rod may in time congeal
But the withering lash of a scathing tongue will never heal. – Verse 129
It is so important to understand the power of self-control and self-discipline. It is easy for one to lapse into irresponsible behavior. However, one must remember that the source of giving into one’s desires indiscriminately leads one to become gross and succumbing to one’s senses.
Saying hurtful things to people also remain with them. We must become aware of our behavior with others and look upon treating them as we treat ourselves. If we can accomplish this activity then we transform ourselves.
