Read it, dear ones. Which sounds make you happy and which sounds disturb you? What are your associations with them?
Pleasing sounds
lilting, dulcet, mellow, melodic, dulcet, pure, sweet, sonorous, musical, listenable.
Unpleasant sounds
Brassy, deafening, full blast, ear splitting, explosive, howling piercing, raucous, riotous.
These sounds can cause distress and anger in us.
What can we do about it?
We are contributing to the sound levels. It is affecting Mother Earth. The birds are getting confused with the rings of the mobile phones. Some of them have changed their song to the sound of the phones. The dolphins and the whales are severely affected by the sound of the ships in the seas. I can name many sounds, which disrupt our lives.
If only we could hear just:
- the babbling of the water in the brook, stream or river.
- the buzzing of the bumble bees and bees sipping the nectar from the lavender flowers.
- the sound of the breeze blowing
- the crackling of the leaves and the falling of fruits.
- the sound of drops of dew falling from trees.
- hear church and temple bells ringing.
- hear the bird songs of the different birds.
I share two quotes with you.
The sound of a kiss is not so loud as that of a cannon, but its echo lasts a great deal longer. – Oliver Wendell Holmes’s
Music is the mediator between the life of the senses and the life of the spirit. – Beethoven (1770—1827)
