337 – Mirror, mirror on the wall

We all know this saying from Snow White, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of us all.” What does it mean? Is it referring to beauty as beauty was very prized in fairy tales?

In Hanuman Chalisa it is written that one has to clean the cobwebs from one’s mind, and then one can see one’s true reflection. Well, if we pause to think about the actual meaning, it is removing the negativity and self-doubts from one’s mind, and then one can see oneself with clarity. In appreciating oneself, we have to love ourselves warts and all. Practicing heightened awareness of one’s behavior pattern and being neutral in viewing others will be one’s true mirror image.

“The pure heart is a spotless mirror in which images of beauty are reflected.” Rumi.
