818 – Words and their power

Utterance is magic. Words do have power… Words are events, they do things, change things. They transform both speaker and hearer; they feed energy back and forth and amplify it. They feed understanding or emotions back and forth and amplify it. – Ursula Kroeber Le Guin.

Words are very powerful. They have the ability to heal and hurt. We must be thoughtful when we speak. Words never get lost; they remain in the firmament. One cannot erase a humiliating and hateful word. It is as if it comes back to us. Think of the Buddha, he said that what was offered he accepted and the abuses just bounced off him.

A 21st Century Jewish Rabbi, Yehuda Berg said:

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively use words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.

Dear ones, remember, ‘the human tongue is a beast that few can master. It strains constantly to break out of its cage, and if it is not tamed, it will run wild and cause you grief.’ Anonymous.
