Who are my BFFs? My thoughts, they are my constant friends. They wake up with me and go to bed with me. I am never alone. Listen to Ramana Maharishi, a great modern-day Saint. He had a spontaneous spiritual awakening at the age of Sweet Sixteen. He realized that his true nature was beyond the physical body and the fear of death. His teachings reflect this.
You can only stop the flow of thoughts by refusing to have any interest in it.
If the mind falls asleep awaken it. Then if it starts wandering make it quiet. If you reach the state where there is neither sleep nor movement of mind, stay still in that, the natural (real) state. Your duty is to be and not to be this or that. ‘I am that I am’ sums up the whole truth. The method is summed up in the words, ‘Be still’. What does stillness mean? It means destroy yourself. Because any form or shape is the cause of trouble. Give up the notion that ‘I am so and so’. All that is required is to realize the self to be still. What can easier than that? – Both by Ramana Maharishi
So simple, is it not, dear ones? Have no interest in your thoughts. Awaken your mind when it falls asleep. Be still.
A small secret: practice Samvrit Pranayama. Inhalation to the count of 5, pause to the count of 5, holding the breath, exhalation to the count of 5 and pause again to the count of 5, with no breath. Practice 27 times, counting backwards. No errors in the counting. You will have to start afresh.
First step in ignoring the thoughts and being still. Observe yourself changing.
