Have you heard this, dear ones? The six-legged bee is an individual who develops the six virtues which enable one to attain liberation. The six-legged bee is mentioned in the meditation verse before one study the Gita. It is referred to a noble seeker, who is equipped with six spiritual values.
Possessing these virtues the seeker can study the Gita with deep intent. This description is explained in the seventh verse of the Gita Dhyanam prayer.
The Gita is viewed as a Lotus. The Mahabharat which is a part of the Gita is compared to a lake. The Gita itself is the lotus, with its beautiful stories as petals and the wisdom displayed in the stories is the fragrance. Noble persons are referred to as six legged bees: Seekers of truth who go deep into the study of the Gita, go to the heart of the Lotus and collect the nectar. Then the meaning of the verses in the Gita is understood.
The six legs represents the six virtues a seeker must possess to drink the promised nectar:
- Discrimination (Viveka)
- Detachment (Vairagya)
- Devotion (Bhakti)
- Deep yearning for knowledge
- Deliberate effort (Sadhana)
- Divine Knowledge (Jnana)
I would like to say that when we study the Gita and other scriptures, we are all developing our virtues and therefore are six legged bees, and this description is applicable to women and men.
