Divine Protection by invoking Devi Kavacham

Dear ones, what do I wish for all the wonderful women in the World. I beg the Goddess to protect us all with her Armor, which is called Devi Kavacham. It is a powerful 47 verse hymn from the Markandeya Puran that acts as a divine, protective shield invoking the various forms of Ma Parvati to guard every part of the devotee’s body. It protects against negative energy, evil spirits, and dangers while fostering spiritual strength.

Key aspects of the Kavacham

  • Significance: It is considered a mantra kavach (shield of mantras) that turns negative and repulsive vibrations into positive ones.
  • Structure: The hymn involves dedicating specific body parts to different parts to different forms of the Mother Divine (e.g. asking Sooleshwari to protect the nails, Mahadevi to protect the breasts).
  • Benefits: Regular recitation is believed to protect against all evils and misfortunes and removes sorrows and fears.

Provide spiritual protection and ultimately liberation (moksha).

Structure of the Protection

The armor invokes goddesses to protect specific areas:

  • Head: Brahmani
  • Throat: Maheshwari
  • Face: Kaumari
  • Arms: Varahi
  • Heart: Lalita Devi
  • Mind – Inner Self: Soka Nasini Destroyer of Sorrows

Devi Kavacham was recited by Brahma to Sage Markandeya. He praises Parvati in nine different forms of the divine Mother. He recommends that each one of us should chant it and seek the blessings of the Devis.

Devi Kavacham is chanted by women and men to nullify negative vibes around one. It acts as a divine armor protecting one from the power of evil.

I am also putting the link for Devi Kavacham with the meaning in English.
