Significance of Navratri and Dussehra

Dussehra signifies the triumph of good over evil. It commemorates the victory of the Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon, Mahisha asura and the triumph of Lord Rama over Ravana, the Demon King. It is also believed that good will always prevail no matter how difficult the troubles are.

This Dussehra transform yourself into a better person by getting rid of

  • Kama Vasana (Lust)
  • Krodha (Anger)
  • Moha (Attraction)
  • Lobha (Greed)
  • Arshia (Jealousy)
  • Svartha (Selfishness)
  • Anyaaya (Injustice)
  • Amanavata (Cruelty)
  • Ahamkara (Ego).

Dear ones, what can we do for ourselves? We can become aware of our thoughts and not let them govern us. The less they influence us, the more we will be on the path of self-realization. Let us not pretend. We all have feelings of anger, desire, greed and allow our ego to control us.

We can develop sensitivity to these negative sensations and attempt to squash the tiny seeds, which sprout in our fertile mind. I know it is a path full of stones and sometimes boulders are strewn. If we just perform a neutral activity like breath awareness with being aware of the inhalation as So and the exhalation as Ham, we will perceive a change in ourselves.

Happy Dussehra.
