The Bhagwad Gita gives the best description of Anger, and chanting a mantra is the cure.
Krishna says:
Anger leads to
Complete delusion or loss of judgment.
From delusion, memory is bewildered.
When this happens, intelligence gets lost.
And the person falls in this chain of events.
When we act in anger, Krodha vegam,
we do things that we regret later.
Anger is considered a gateway to hell, and we are asked to avoid it to avoid suffering. Anything in excess causes harm and the same is the case with anger.
Dear ones, it is difficult for us to understand the power of anger and how sad we feel when we have been on a rampage fueled by rage.
The foolproof way to overcome anger is described in the Vedas. The sages said that by chanting the Lord’s name one can overcome all negative emotions and receive eternal bliss.
‘Om Hreem Namah Shivaya’ helps calm the mind and body. It reduces anger and rage.
‘Om Namo Bhagwate Rudrama’ is a call to Rudra, the fierce one. He is the one who removes negativity and difficulties from the path.
Last but not least, a daily practice of breath awareness will also help us.
Anuloma Viloma
Become aware of your breath with Anuloma Viloma. Breathe in and out in a normal, spontaneous way. Now visualize the breath flowing in and out of the left nostril, counting backwards 27 times. Repeat with the right nostril in an identical way, 27 times. Now breathe in and out through both nostrils 54 times. No mistake to be made as you will have to start again.
What happens here? You are aware of the breath, you are visualizing the breath flowing in and out, you are concentrating on the counting. Your conflicting and angry thoughts have been quietened. You can perceive the source of your disruption neutrally.
