Dear Ones, I read a very funny quote and it was at the same time true.
One is like a sandwich, the top slice is one’s birth and the bottom slice is one’s death. You make your life with the choice of filling. – Allan Rufus
Well, how do you view yourselves?
A Tamasic sandwich.
A Rajasic sandwich.
A Sattvic sandwich.
What would you put in it? I do not want to be judgemental.
Now people make sandwiches with edible gold, truffles, caviar and the most expensive and rare mushrooms (Gucchi) in the world. How can we describe this sandwich? It is a very materialistic sandwich. Do you perceive yourself like this? Are you a hedonist?
A sandwich with avocado, roasted aubergines, and beetroot, olives, kale, pickled onions and gherkins.
A sandwich with roasted tomatoes, cheese, cress and cucumbers.
A sandwich with peanut butter and jam or mashed bananas.
A sandwich with mashed or fried potatoes.
A fruit sandwich with thinly sliced figs, peaches, apples and cream cheese.
A sandwich with a cutlet. I leave the cutlet to your choice.
Describe yourself because whatever is the filling that is the way you are. You can change your filling and that means you change yourself.
I remember my mother made sandwiches for us to take to school. We were five siblings; one brothers and four sisters. Each one of us would take four sandwiches. She would make homemade cheese (paneer) and tomato slices sandwiches with mustard or egg sandwiches. All our friends, who were in the boarding loved the sandwiches. Go down memory lane and think of the sandwiches you liked and still like.
One has to view oneself and see how one handles one’s life. Do not forget that you are the stuffing. It is in your hands how you view and examine your life. We are also composed of the gunas, sattva, rajas and tamas. We keep changing during the day and we all hope that we could remain sattvic.
The Food Prayer
Translation of Brahmaparan
Oh Lord, thou art the food,
Thou art the enjoyer of the food
Thou art the giver and preparer of the food
Along with the inwards and outwards breath
You are the digestive fire that digests all types of food.
We offer to you all that we consume.
