Dear Ones, look at words starting with Re.
Responsibility is the word which governs one and all. Do we assume responsibility for our actions or do we blame others?
Regret means to feel sorry and to be sincere about it.
Reward means compensation, award or profit.
Recommend means to endorse or support.
Recompense means to compensate, to pay or repay and satisfy.
Repayment means to reciprocate, to give back or pay back.
Requital means to give something in return.
Reconciliation means an agreement or harmony.
Let us examine these words which are used by us negatively.
Retribution means compensation for some misdemeanor. It can be described as a punishment for some misdeed.
Retaliation means to reciprocate in kind and it implies paying back in kind.
Reprisal means an act of retaliation, especially committed by one country against another.
Revenge means to hurt or punish someone, because they have made one suffer.
Reckoning means judgement, fate, nemesis or doom.
What are our feelings about these words? Do we assume responsibility and hold ourselves accountable for what we do? Do we think about how we could hurt someone or harm them? Do we hold grudges and resentment?
What about the positive meaning of regret, reward, recompense, repayment and reconciliation? If we would apply these words in our daily life, we would become self-reflective, self-aware and detached.
And that is what we are seeking a state of equanimity.
