844 – My True Heart

Feel more sense more, let your heart function. The intelligence of the heart creates poetry in your life, gives dance to your steps, makes your life a joy… a festivity, a laughter… It makes you capable of love, of sharing. That is true life. – Osho

Why is it, my dear ones, there are so many heart phrases. Idioms like heart in my mouth are used frequently. I will list some more, by heart (you know it verbatim), eat your heart out, change of heart, cross my heart, heart in the right place, heart of gold, heart to heart, lose heart, pour your heart out, all heart, bless your heart, follow your heart, in a heartbeat, take heart, you have my heart, after your own heart, wear your heart on your sleeve, heart of stone, heart sinks, young at heart, broken heart.

We could write a book using these phrases. I remember when I was a teenager, we used to laugh at our girlfriends, who said that they had a broken heart after they broke up with their partner. Mind you, we were all of 14 or so. It was our mind, which was making us laugh.

Goddess resides in the heart

The heart plays a very important role and as one grew more mature, one realized how callous and unempathetic one was as a teenager. Our heart is precious and pure. It must rule us as the mind is full of quarrelsome and negative thoughts. The heart is mentioned in all faiths and we believe that the Goddess resides in the heart. Therefore, the heart is always pure. However, we also have to recognize that in order to connect with our heart, we need to purify our thoughts or become thoughtless.

Thoughtless here means that we are not influenced by our feelings and emotions and are neutral. However thoughtless has another meaning, which is inconsiderate and rude. This thoughtlessness is again an attribute of the mind. All the negative phrases about the heart originate in the mind. Also look at the all the sad phrases used with the heart. It is our feelings which are responsible.

Let me share some more quotes about our heart.

Whenever the wavering and steadfast heart wanders away, then so often let him subdue it and bring it back to the control of the soul; For supreme happiness comes to the Yogin (devout wo/men), whose heart is at rest, in whom passion is tranquillized, who is one with Brahman and free from sin. – Bhagavad Gita 6:26—29.

Here we are again referring to our fickle mind which engages our simple heart. Only by quietening our mind can we come back to our innocent heart and experience happiness.
Meditating on the Lotus of your heart, in the center is the untainted; the exquisitely pure, clear, and sorrowless; the inconceivable; the unmanifest, of infinite form; blissful, tranquil, immortal; the womb of Brahman. – Kaivalyopanishad

Those in whose hearts OM reverberates
Unceasingly are indeed blessed
And deeply loves as one who is the Self.
The all-knowing Self was never born,
Nor will it die. Beyond cause and effect,
The self is eternal and immutable.
When the body dies, the Self does not die. – Katha Upanishad

Our soul resides in our heart, and it is immortal. Dear ones, your heart is the most precious part of you, do not lose it.
