Kavach is a protective chant which protects the one, who is chanting with the energy of the god or goddess. It forms a protective shield. Repeating it numerous times will also grant other benefits such as health, wealth or solution of one’s problems.
Kavach also refers to a sectarian mark, consisting of lines, curves, circles, spots or designs which are painted on various parts of the body. The use of these marks brings the aspirant under the protection of a particular deity. The kavach protects the worshipper from negative forces.
There is also a practice of wearing a stone, a piece of paper, charged with mantras. The one Brahman is here invoked by different names in order to protect different parts of the body, so that the aspirant may utter the mantras of his Ishta devata.
Narsimha Kavach is a very powerful Mantra. Its meaning is:
May the all-auspicious Lord who Himself bestows all-auspiciousness, protect from the north-east, the direction of the sun-god, and may he who is death personified protect me from fear of death and rotation in this material world.
It protects one from all kinds of evil forces. People who listen or recite this Kavach also get rid of all kinds of health ailments.
The Devi Kavacham consists of the Mother Divine’s names that makes an armor around us, and around the body. It is also a very powerful Kavacham.
