Aditya Hrudayam

Aditya Hrudayam is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. It is a very powerful prayer and was known to the Rishi Agastya, a revered Vedic sage of Hinduism, who saved humanity and helped the Gods in their battle against Evil. He recited it to Rama, before his battle with Ravana. It is hymn which brings victory, courage and strength. It also calms the mind and restores vitality.

The essence of Aditya Hrudayam is that Surya is the illuminator for all of the seven worlds. The rays that emanate from you remove all the worries of sins and sorrows. Your rays embrace us; you are the beginning, the embodiment of the beginning. All the worlds worship thee! We bow to you, the maker of light.

The origin of Aditya Hrudayam is said to be 20,000 years ago. It has been chanted since then. Chanting it is a means of invoking the cosmic energy of the Sun god for strength and victory. It restores cosmic energy and wards of negativity. Recitation helps to dispel darkness, ignorance and dismay and it promotes good health. It is very relevant in Vedic Astrology. The sun plays a crucial role influencing the planets.

Aditya Hrudayam invokes Surya Devata as the Supreme Being and by reciting it one witnesses miracles. It appears in the Yuddha Kanda of Valmiki ‘s Ramayana. It is a powerful tool for seeking divine guidance and strength.
