Adored Goddess Uma

Dear ones, one can never attain anything if the time is not right. I came across a series of CDs recording the Uma Sahasram in a book shop. I was also looking for books about the Sri Yantra. It was my sixtieth birthday, and I said to my husband that I wanted to buy various books on Philosophy and Spirituality.

We went to this special shop and in a corner, I found 5 CDs with recording of recitation of Uma Sahasrara and I had not heard about it until then. I was very excited. However, one was missing. They almost gave me the CDs free.

The next thing that happened was I found three books written on the Sri Yantra. These again were very rare and were covered in dust. They were also almost bought for a song. Lastly, I bought the Devi Bhagwatam from the shop next door, which kept spiritual books. I was so happy to have got these beautiful treasures.

Mother of the World

The Uma Sahasram is a thousand verse hymn dedicated to the Goddess Uma. It is composed by the great poet Yogi Vashishta Ganapati Muni. Ganapati Muni was the closest disciple of Ramanna Maharishi describes the Divine Mother as the primordial light, sound, speech, and consciousness. It portrays the “Mother of the World” as Kundalini dwelling in the body in Stabak 6, verse 22.

Welcome to the adored of all worlds; welcome to the Queen of the Lord of the Universe; welcome to her who is exceedingly compassionate to me; welcome to her who has attained the thousand petalled.

Stabak 14, verse 11 speaks about her omnipresence. The universe is only a projection of the mind. This verse

Turned outwards thou sees the variegated universe. Inward turned there is nothing besides the in front.

suggests that when one’s perspective is turned outward, they perceive the universe with all its constant activities but when inward there is nothing else. One only sees the Divine Mother.

Hearing the recitation of Uma Sahasram, one becomes humble, sinless and when is accommodating her in one’s heart, one becomes free of all doubts and fears about others and oneself. Praising her grants one’s fulfillment of desires. She is pleased when one self-surrenders to her.

Her description is breathtakingly beautiful. Her smile is compared to pure moonlight, and it reflects protectiveness and the nectar of compassion. Her invocation leads to blessing those who have darkness in their mind and who are affected negatively by the moonlight. She is addressed by numerous names, and each name has the power to grant one self-realization.

She is called the Goddess of the universe and the primal seed of creation, the splendor of Shiva and one’s willpower in commune with Shiva. She is also addressed as the feminine cosmic energy, the material cause of creation and the means of attaining moksha.

Dear ones, welcome the Goddess as the adored of all worlds.
