Conflict free

Ramanna Maharishi said to Robert Adams. “The only spiritual life you need is not to react.”

Robert Adams was an American Vedanta Teacher. His explanation of what Ramanna Maharishi said was to be calm is the greatest asset in the world. When you are perfectly calm, time stops. There is no time; karma and samskaras stop.

Do not be in conflict with yourself. Do not be in conflict with your thoughts and the self. When there is no conflict there are no thoughts. Thoughts only appear because there is conflict. By conflict I mean, you are worrying about getting rid of your thought, you’re doing sadhana, meditation, pranayama, japas. All of these cause conflict.

For are you not saying, ‘I am doing these things to become liberated. I am doing these things to become free.’ The reason there is a conflict because you are already free and liberated. Therefore, when you give yourself the information that you have to do something to become liberated there is immediately conflict.

How to unblock the conflict lock

Start with Ajapa Japa. It means chanting from the heart. Your heart is pure and your soul resides there. Just be aware of your breath. Your breath is nothing without the life force, prana. Inhale with So and exhale with Ham. Be aware of the prana flowing in and out with your breath. Practice for twenty minutes.

I can only add that the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
