Hymn to the Mother–Ambastuti

Sri Durgasaptalokistotra—-Song of the seven verses to Sri Durga.

The Sri Durgasaptalokistotra consists of those mantras in which the Devi’s power is most concentrated. It is also written that Shiva praised Devi’s accessibility and requested a process for accomplishing what is desired. Devi then in a loving motherlike manner revealed this song of praise which she called Ambastuti (Hymn to the Mother) and ordained that it was the highest path to spiritual attainment.

  1. She the Blessed Goddess Mahamaya, seizes the minds of even the wise and draws them into delusion.
  2. Remembered in distress, you remove fear from every creature. Remembered by the untroubled, you confer even greater serenity of mind. Dispeller of poverty, suffering and fear, who other than you is ever intent on benevolence towards all?
  3. Salutations be to you, Narayani, who is the good, the auspicious one; to you who accomplishes every intent; to you, the refuge, the all-knowing, shining Gauri!
  4. Salutations be to you, Narayani, whose intent is on rescuing the distressed and afflicted that take refuge in you, Devi, who removes suffering of all.
  5. O Devi, who exists in the form of all, who is the ruler of all, possessing all power, protecting us from fears, Devi Durga, salutations be to you.
  6. When pleased you destroy all afflictions, but when displeased you thwart all aspirations. No calamity befalls those who have taken refuge in you, and they who resort to you become a refuge to others.
  7. O ruler of all, may you allay the miseries of the three worlds and so, to annihilate our enemies.

Dear ones, please read this Hymn to the Mother. Be loved and protected.
