A thought for the day

When I was growing up, in the local paper this title would come every day. A thought for the day. It was the time when one waited for the newspaper to arrive. Then my parents would read the newspaper and the subject would come up for discussion about what the thought was. It was quite the highlight as often one felt that it was exactly what one was thinking about. Dear ones, you must remember that there was no television and one depended on the radio and the daily newspaper.

Then some papers had a spiritual quote published on the last page of the newspaper. Again, it was read by most people and often someone would say very seriously that s/he was a very spiritual person as they read the daily thought. And they were very influenced by what was published.

What happened to us?

Are we affected by what we read at all? Are we subjected to the media onslaught?

What does spiritual mean? Spiritual means divine or sacred.

How do we apply it to our lives?

By expressing gratitude, compassion, by being self-aware, by meditating. Practicing forgiveness, helping others, and observing atmabhava, love for our fellow beings.

The Buddha said that just as a candle cannot burn without a fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life.

Plato said that when one was on a spiritual journey the first and the greatest victory is to conquer oneself.

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul. – Swami Vivekananda

Dear ones, be genuine, recognize yourself and love, serve and give.
