Tummy upset

Tummy upsets can happen any time. A meeting, a lecture, an engagement or some other important event missed because of it. Oh dear, a perfect holiday spoilt because of it. No one is immune of it. What if one had many plans, maybe a seminar to attend, enjoying ice cream, swimming or sightseeing.

How can we remedy it?

Stress accompanies us all. This stress is reflected in our digestive system. Tadagi mudra is a simple practice, which relaxes the abdomen.

Tadagi Mudra

Sit with legs outstretched and with both hands grasping the big toes. Like in Paschimotanasana. Inhale deeply so that the chest and abdomen are fully expanded. Retain the breath and concentrate on the abdominal muscles. Exhale, contract the abdomen muscles. Repeat 10 times. After ending the practice, one will feel that the muscles are toned and relaxed. The pressure in the abdominal cavity is increased with the inhalation, and the lymphatic drainage is enhanced. Manipura chakra is also activated with the exhalation, and the other muscle groups are affected.

Activation of the Manipura chakra

Sit in a comfortable pose. Practice ujjayi pranayama. Inhale, contract your throat, hold breath to the count of 5, then exhale. While practicing ujjayi pranayama, there is a snoring sound. It is not a loud sound; it is like a kitten or baby snoring. Now breathe in through the navel and let the breath go to Manipura chakra, which is directly behind the navel in the spinal column. Hold the breath and repeat Ram three times. Exhale moving the breath plus awareness to the navel and out of the navel. Be aware of the breath moving in and out of the navel and the expansion and contraction of the abdomen.

Be diligent in your practice and be relaxed. Say Goodbye to tummy upsets.
