What does the name Rama signify?

Rama’s meaning is given in the Ramayana itself. Rama is that Sat-Chit-Ananda (existence, consciousness, bliss) Brahman, in which all yogis ever revel.

Rama is also, “He who delights everyone”.

There is a line from a beautiful song in the Adhyatma Ramayana by Sadashiva Brahmendra. He describes the real identity of Rama.

He, who is sporting in my heart is Rama.

Sporting means that my heart is full of joy with the presence of Rama.

He, who revels in the heart of all beings is Rama.

Rama fills one’s heart with love and yearning.

He who revels in the heart of all beings is Rama.

Here it means that one who loves all beings and is joyous in their company is Rama.

Rama is Ananda Swaroopa, the essence of joy playing in our heart—Sat-Chit-Ananda. Therefore, Rama is our true, spiritual nature.

Pause, dear ones and meditate on one’s existence, consciousness and bliss. Then you will understand and experience the meaning of Rama.
