What is inner freedom?

Man’s freedom is final and immediate if he so wills; it depends not on outer but on inner victories. – Paramhansa Vivekananda

Dear ones, do we wish to be free? How does one define freedom? I will give a few examples. You can make your own lists.

Childhood

I want to eat chips. I want to drink a coke, every day. I wish to sleep late. I want to play all day. Why should I do my homework?

Youth

I want to do exactly as I please. I want to be free of pursuing a pursuit.

Adulthood

Free of responsibilities.

Add whatever you wish to the list. Only our inner freedom, enables us to be actually victorious. Why do the Gurus say listen to your inner voice? Our inner voice is faint. For some it is a whisper, a bleat, or a shout.

How do we listen to ourselves?

There is a cacophony of sounds. Can we hear the softest sounds? Can you hear a dew drop falling? Experiment and listen, without identifying the sound. This is external awareness. Listen to the sound of your breath. This is internal awareness. Go back and forth.

Consciousness

Become conscious of all sentient beings, the earth and the cosmos. Now consciously become aware of the little flame in your heart space. Go in and out of the external space and internal space. Now only look at the light within the heart space. It expands and contracts with your respiration. Count backwards from 108. The counting is 108, I am breathing in and breathing out. No errors. You can start from 27, 54 or 108.

You will find that you are connecting to your inner divinity. This is your inner freedom.
