Can you guess, what is missing?

Latest in Health Research.

  1. Music soothes brain during surgery, speeds up recovery.
Patients made to listen to music during surgery have a lesser need for anesthetics and show better stress control, which helps them to recover faster.
  2. Cocoa, tea can protect heart if you’re sitting for too long.
Research has found that if the participants drank cocoa or tea, they would not have vascular dysfunction induced by sitting regardless of their fitness levels. The heart risks would be reduced, because of a sedentary life.
  3. Tai Chi can be a boon for insomniacs.
The practice of Tai Chi reduced the severity of chronic insomnia and is considered the gold standard for insomnia treatment.

Music

I read this in the newspaper this morning. Well, several thoughts crossed my mind. In Vellore Christian Medical college, the doctors pray before they perform a surgery. I had my training there for Counselling. They have the highest success rate in surgery and it is reputed for patients coming with botched surgeries. Music of course benefits and chants are very powerful.

Cocoa and tea

Yes, cocoa and tea work, because of the flavanols in them. However, one is forgetting that if one took short breaks of breath awareness then one would remain balanced. Also, if one just practiced parts of Pawan Mukta asana part one, then one would restore the circulation in one’s toes, heels and ankles.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is excellent, no denying it. However, the tree pose and boat pose if practiced before bed time are very beneficial for insomniacs. Again, breath awareness while in the bed is helpful.

There are some observations which I have made. If one practices breath awareness then one remains in control and in harmony. When one is going for a surgery, it is normal to be afraid. We all have fear of the unknown, however well informed one is. Ujjayi pranayama with Soham or Aum is very effective. One has no need for anything else. Ujjayi reduces one’s fears and anxiety. Chanting a mantra is also helpful.

Hot drinks with flavanols support heart health by lowering blood pressure. They work on memory and brain function. Well again let us look at the balancing pranayama. It is very simple and it is to breathe to the count of 5, pause to the count of 5, exhale to the count of 5 and pause without breathing to the count of 5. Then moving one’s toes, feet and ankles methodically is very effective. The Samvrit or balancing pranayama grants the benefit of adjusting our system in all its aspects.

Lastly the tree pose and boat pose are very beneficial, before bedtime to grant sleep. Breath awareness, where one just visualizes the breath going in and out of the nostrils puts one to sleep.

Dear ones, I am pointing out that the simple practices of breath awareness, enable one to have control over the self.

The research left out what one can do for oneself with one’s breath.
