Contemplate on Surya Devata

Surya Devata shines brilliantly. His rays pervade all the ten directions. He has seven horses, and he is called Saptasaptih. The seven horses draw the chariot with one wheel. The wheel has three hubs. Nothing can destroy this immortal wheel. All life in this world exists because of the horses and this wheel. The wheel is the cycle of time. The three hubs are the past, present and future. The seven horses are the seven rays of the spectrum of light and each horse represents a chakra.

Surya Devata drives away the darkness. He is the source of prosperity and happiness in life. He eliminates suffering from the life of his devotees. With his rays, he breathes life into an otherwise insentient egg of the universe. He is also described as one, who has infinite rays pervading the entire solar system. He is addressed as Sahasrarich. The word Sahasra means a thousand and infinite as well. – Verse 11. Aditya Hrdayam. Swami Tattvavidananda Saraswati.

According to the Rig Veda, Surya Devata is described as having a golden body and radiating golden splendour. He is portrayed as the guardian and preserver of nature. He is also addressed as Mitra, friend because of his effulgence and generosity.
