Sadhana has to be understood in the context of one’s daily life. Sadhana is a signal indicating the beginning and growth of the divine life within. Through sadhana the hidden powers of the mind are discovered which can be used for successful living and for spiritual realization. Sadhana enables one to overcome limitations.
Limitations were described as evil forces in ancient literatures. During sadhana one is immersed in the process of going deep within. During the period of sadhana, thoughts, passions, desires and karmas are reduced. After practicing for an hour, one feels lighter. Sadhana is to be practiced for self-perfection combined with karuna (compassion) for others. It is self-defeating if one practices for one’s benefits.
Swadhyaya, awareness and inner silence are essential for the practice of sadhana. Swadhyaya is self-study, through reading spiritual books. Awareness is the witnessing principle. Awareness is present in each one of us. Inner silence is the secret element of sadhana. It is a state of thoughtlessness.
In order to practice, one needs to develop willpower. A small vow made to practice daily will strengthen one’s resolve.
Dear ones, one can start with a daily sadhana of mantra meditation and then proceed further with other dharanas.
