Tale 9 – Coconut palm

Story about how the coconut palm grows in Car Nicobar.

Car Nicobar is the northern most island in the Nicobar archipelago. In ancient times it was a desolate and lonely place with no water. There was a man, who knew how to create water and only he could help the people on the island.

He was asked to share the secret of how he created water by his friend, Yanalo. He refused. Yanalo was so enraged that he cut of his head and buried his body near his home on the south west coast.

Yanalo was guilt ridden and he was also very alone. He left his village and wandered to the east coast. After six years he returned to visit his family. His daughter was on her deathbed. He wandered around the island looking for a healing herb or plant with which he could save her.

At the spot where he had buried his friend, he found a tall tree, with fruit that resembled a human head. The refreshing water from the fruit saved his daughter. To this day the islanders venerate the life-giving coconut palm.

Dear ones, the coconut water is considered nature’s miracle drink. It is loaded with electrolytes, vitamins and minerals. It is traditionally known as the best hydrating drink.
