There is a very old song called, “Playground in my mind. “It was written in 1972. I had just got married; I was 22 years old. It is a lovely song and remains a favorite of mine. Please listen to it. It is a song about simple joys and the pursuit of happiness. It is still relevant and many of us can enable others to visit the playground in their mind.
The sound of laughter, and the shrieks of children while playing. Eating sweets, which of us has not enjoyed eating sweets. The songs which we sang and the games we played. Visits to grand-parents and picnics.
It is possible for us to give this to children, who are in orphanages, from war torn countries or refugees. Also, to sick persons, and you will be surprised when they smile.
Memories are so special. I brought up the memory of plucking raw mangoes with my sisters and friends. Their eyes lit up. Eating an ice-cream on a hot summer’s day. I work with children who live on the street with their parents, and we were going through the alphabet and thinking of fruits and animals. They were so excited, they laughed and made animal sounds.
I have given meditation to persons who were living with AIDS. I went through memory lane with them and when they opened their eyes they were smiling. For a moment I felt that they all had become well.
Persons in palliative care can also go into the playground in their mind. It just has to be different images. I have given them prana healing practices, playing on memories. And this gives them hope, freedom from pain and sleep.
Playground in my Mind. Song by Clint Holmes.
When this old world gets me down and there’s no love to be found
I close my eyes and soon I find I’m in the playground in my mind
Where the children laugh, and the children play
And we sing a song all day.
My name is Michael, I’ve got a Nickle, I’ve got a nickel shiny and new
I’m gonna buy me all kinds of candy, that’s what I am gonna do
In the wonders that I find in the playground in my mind
In a world that used to be, close your eyes, and follow me
Where the children laugh, and the children play
And we’ll sing a song all day.
My girl is Cindy, and when we get married, we’re gonna have a baby or two
We’re let them visit their grandma, that’s what we’re gonna do
Living in a world that I left behind
Happy little children
In the playground in my mind
See the little children
See how they play in the playground in my mind.
La la la.
In the playground in your mind, just try this and think of all the events which made you grow up. It is important to not attach the negativity to them. Without difficulty one would never evolve. These memories empower us and remain treasures.
