I desire you
More than food
And drink.
My body
My senses
My mind
Hunger for your taste
I can sense your presence
In my heart.
Although you belong
To all the world
I wait with silent passion
For one gesture
One glance
From you.
Whom do we desire, who are we seeking?
When we eat, we must be happy. Our food nourishes not only our body but our mind as well. We must express gratitude for our food. We must be aware of all that went into making it. We must eat slowly, being aware of the effort that went into making it. We must be relaxed and grateful, for the food we receive.
The Gita states that one who overeats and one who does not eat are both not fit for meditation. The right way to eat is in moderation. An alert mind and fit body are nourished by moderation.
Food was treated as Prasad in ancient Hinduism. It was eaten not for pleasure but as an offering to the inner fire in Manipura Chakra, the storehouse of Prana.
