Oh, Mahadevi have mercy

As Hindus we struggle in our lives be free of karma. The effects of karma are far reaching and the mother is keen to show us how to exhaust our karmas. What does this mean? God’s unique quality is mercy and She is Sarvani—the knower of all things. Since God is all knowing, all our misdeeds and actions are known to her. God is Sarva Sakthan and is all powerful and omnipotent. God may create a new hell and we may be pushed into it. However, the divine mercy, which is present in God guides us and it can be our salvation.

Sri Vedanta Desika considered to be the manifestation of Srinivasa has written about the mercy of God in Daya Satyakam (hundred verses). In these verses, the different qualities of Daya devi are personified. He says that the mercy of the mother is like sugarcane juice and the reward is like sugar candy. She is ready to embrace us and grant us moksha. The other qualities, Jnana, Shakthi, Bal, Aiswarya, Veerya and Tejas.

Jnana is unlimited knowledge.
Shakthi is energy.
Bala is strength.
Aiswarya is opulence.
Virya is heroism.
Tejas is Splendor.

These qualities are not recognized without the blessings of mercy.

The Goddess, Mahadevi is without beginning and end and engages in the act of creation. It is consistently written and quoted that we should have a pure heart and should be consistently compassionate and kind. Mahadevi will bestow her blessings upon us, without discrimination.

How are we granted mercy?

We must become aware of our heart through the sadhana of Pranayama. We become conscious of our breath, inhalation and exhalation. Then we visualize the prana in our breath as light. Next count our inhalation and exhalations backwards. 54 in and 54 out. Outcome our thoughts decrease in their rowdy behavior, encouraging desires and negativities. Our incoming breath becomes lighter and our outcoming breath expels the doubts and negativity.

The Goddess who resides in our heart is awakened, and when we develop self-awareness and detachment, she is present in us. We are granted mercy.
