Open eyed Meditation

Dear ones, all my books especially written by my Guru, give me an answer. You know I try to write a daily blog. However, it is only possible with the blessing of the Goddess and my Guru.

Swamiji taught Swami Niranjananda pratyahara and other practices. He did not teach him as if it was in a classroom. He would be working, writing his letters and he would tell Swami Niranjananda to go and stand in the sun and watch his shadow for ten minutes. When the time was up, he was to come and tell him what he saw. Then he would ask him to do something else for five or fifteen minutes. After this he would ask him to narrate what he experienced.

Swami Niranjananda said that this is how he was taught. He did not feel the pressure. He was told to meditate with his eyes open. He also did not understand why he said it. But later he understood.

The explanation is that perfection in meditation happens with the eyes open, as one has to control, guide analyze and cultivate the intensity of one’s awareness. One must not block the intensity or reduce the level of one’s awareness. If one reduces one’s level of awareness then one falls fast asleep.
