How can one become free of this cyclical process of existence? It is an eternal question and Gurus give different interpretations.
Swami Vivekananda has described the cyclical process of existence (samsara) as the continuous, repetitive process of creation and dissolution that applies to both the entire universe and individual beings. This cycle of Maya (illusion/ignorance) and Karma (actions and their consequences) from which the ultimate goal is liberation.
The cyclical process of existence is like night and day, like the bright fortnight and the dark fortnight of the month. One truth, the real; one false, the unreal; one auspicious, positive and dynamic; one inauspicious, negative and restrictive. The cyclical process of existence is that you find yourself in, but this is only a manifestation of the highest nature. In order to realize this, one has to practice fixation of the mind. – Swami Niranjananda
Lastly according to Swami Sivananda, the cyclical process of existence (samsara) is the cycle of birth and death driven by ignorance (avidya) and karma, from which the ultimate goal is liberation (moksha) through self-realization. He taught that life is a school of experience and rebirth is a necessity for the soul’s evolution and purification.
The individual cycle is called Samsara. At the individual level, the atman (eternal soul or itself) is bound to the cycle of samsara (the continuous cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth). It is our goal to become free of this cycle.
In order to become free of the cyclical process of existence one has to perform spiritual sadhanas which transcend ego and understand the true self. Then one can hope to achieve moksha, ending the cycle and eternal peace.
I am aware that it is complicated but by becoming self-aware and reflective, it is possible for us to walk this path of self-realization.
