The Ramayana is looked upon as a spiritual epic. The story is about the triumph of good over evil. Reading the Ramayana blesses one with harmony and equanimity. In order to understand the context of the Ramayana, one should perform the Ramayana Dhyana.

Ramayana Dhyana refers to the meditative contemplation of the Shlokas before reading or reciting the epic. By chanting before reading, one seeks to invoke divine blessings, and honor the sage Valmiki, Rama, Sita and Hanuman.

Rama Taraka Mantra

1. Invocation to sage Valmiki.
   I bow to the nightingale, the sage Valmiki, who is perched on the branch of poetry and he sings the sweet and melodious name of Rama.
2. He who hears the roar—the story of Rama—of the lion—Valmiki, the sage who roams the forest of poetry, attains the supreme state.
   I salute the sage Valmiki who is not satiated even after constantly drinking the nectarine story of Rama.
3. Salutations to Hanuman, the messenger, who is the crest jewel of the Ramayana.
   I bow with my head to Hanuman, the messenger of Sri Rama, who could move faster than the mind or the wind, the master of his senses, the foremost among the wise, the son of the Wind god and chief of the monkey brigade.
4. Salutations to Hanuman, the ocean crosser.
   I salute Hanuman who crossed the ocean as it were the footprint of a calf and who treated the demons as if they were mosquitoes.
   I salute with folded hands, Anjaney (Hanuman), who gathered the fire of sorrow that tormented Sita (daughter of Janaka) and with it burnt down Sri Lanka.
5. Contemplation on Hanuman.
   I meditate on the Wind-god’s son, Hanuman who has a reddish face, a beautiful body resembling a golden mountain and who dwells at the root of the celestial Parijat tree.
   I adore Hanuman,
   He is present with tears of devotion in his eyes, wherever the names of Rama are sung.
6. I salute Rama.
   Rama is peerless and the husband of Sita. He has long arms and lotus eyes.
7. I adore Rama.
   He is seated at the foot of the celestial tree, on a flowery seat in a golden palace, along with Sita and his brothers, while his glory is sung by sages.

Dear ones, it is believed that if one chants the Rama Taraka Mantra it brings inner peace, protection and focus.

Sri Rama Jaya Rama, Jaya, Jaya Rama.

Its meaning is victory to Lord Rama. Shri represents Goddess Sita. Rama destroys negative karma and Jaya means victory.
