Swami Sivananda’s favorite words

Life is short and time is fleeting. Arise, awake, realize the Self.

Swamiji would say,

Don’t say that. Tomorrow is for fools; it will never come. Days, months, years, even life itself will pass away. Exert yourself from this very second.

People, who came to him asking him for guidance, would say that they would turn over a new leaf on a specific date. It is so true, we are always pushing away tasks and we find other things to do. We say we will start tomorrow and tomorrow never comes. We are all like this. However, anything can happen and then we will be lost.

Time is indeed most precious. It can never come back. It is rolling on with tremendous speed. When the bell rings, remember that you are approaching death. When the clock strikes, bear in mind that one hour is cut off from the span of your life.

This happens when we take our time for granted.

When we start the practice of Yoga, what happens is that when we perform our sadhana daily, we have more time. Time becomes like an ocean of time. However, this only happens when we establish our connection with our untroubled self. Our self-ceases to be agitated and we can patiently pursue our duties.
