Law of Divine compensation is described as the spiritual principle of reaping what you sow or divine recompense. The core principle is spiritual reciprocity: the basic idea is that actions, whether positive or negative have consequences that return to the doer, not merely as a direct transaction but part of a universal balance maintained by a higher power.
Biblical Quotes
Whoever sows sparingly will reap also and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. – 2 Corinthians 9:6
God’s justice and reward: The Bible speaks of God’s recompense as a just repayment, which can mean a reward for believers and punishment for the wicked, based on their actions and faith. – Revelations 22:12, Isaiah 40:10
In Hinduism the law of Divine compensation aligns with the law of Karma which is an integral part of Dharma or universal moral order. Karma is derived from the Sanskrit root Kri (to do), is an active universe law of existence that functions much like the physical law of cause and effect: every action has an equal and opposite reaction. This is then summarized by “You reap what you sow.”
Karma Divine compensation
Consequences: good actions produce positive consequences, leading to happiness. Impure actions result in suffering and unhappiness.
Transmigration of the soul: The consequences of actions often extend beyond a single lifetime. Karma attaches to the atman and determines the conditions of future rebirths (reincarnation samsara). Therefore, a virtuous life will lead to better rebirth, while evil actions may result in a sad life.
Divine dispensation: While karma is a mechanistic process, in theistic schools of Hinduism such as Vedanta, God is considered the dispenser of the fruits of karma. God does not create the karma but ensures that the appropriate consequences are experienced by the individual soul in accordance with their deeds. This ensures a just and balanced universal order.
Lastly the Bhagwad Gita teaches performing one’s duty (dharma) without attachment leads to the results (karma Phala). Selfless action (Karma Yoga) allows an individual to act without generating a karmic bondage.
Dear ones, if we practice what Swami Sivananda ordained, love, serve and give we will become free of Karmic bondage and be blessed with Divine Compensation.
