471 – Love’s doors are always open

Proverbs about love are universal.

Love understands all languages. – Romanian

Love has to be shown by deeds, not words. – Swahili

The heart that loves is always young. – Greek

The course of true love never did run smooth. – William Shakespeare.

In the Gita, Krishna said there are various paths for spiritual progress—karma yoga, jnana yoga, dhyana yoga and bhakti yoga. He also mentions throughout his discourses that there is a secret message; a secret that only a heart filled with love can fathom. (Bhagavad Gita 4.3)

The Gita is essentially a revelation of divinity’s love for humanity as well as a love call for humanity’s love for reciprocal love for divinity. Let us tread the path of love as revealed by Krishna. Let us love and be loved. – Swami Prabhupada.

For those who have conquered the mind, it is their friend. For those who have failed to do so, the mind works like an enemy. – Bhagavad Gita 6.6

My dear ones, attend to your mind, liberate it by banishing anger, hate and fears. Open the doors of love.

459 – Celebrate your inner Christmas

Swami Satyananda Saraswati said in December 25,1983 during his stay in Australia:

“The divine baby is the Christ, who came onto this mortal plane of consciousness in order to save and to redeem us, and to destroy the tamasic and demonic forces in and around us.

When Christ came, he destroyed avidya (ignorance). He denounced the so-called institutionalized forces which were surviving and thriving in the name of religion. Is the situation any different today? Will he accept what is going in, in the name of religion?

I know one thing that is higher consciousness which is called Christ Consciousness, Buddha Consciousness, or Krishna Consciousness, is awakened in you at any time in your life, it is not going to bring disaster. It will be the beginning of knowledge, experience, bliss, and the feeling of unity with every living person. That is why Yoga is taught. Knowledge is not enough; you need the experience which is like a flash of lightning.

Understand, who is Christ? Which Christ do you know? Is he the Christ born of a worldly father? Is he the Christ, who is the indwelling entity in every heart? Is he the Christ who creates a vision of the whole universe within and without? Is he the Christ, who transcends everything? He is all four and he came down in a physical body. He was not a myth. He was a man in flesh and blood. He lives in our hearts.

Wherever you can awaken yourself, he is there in your heart.”

453 – Science of Sound

In ancient times words and music were used to attain an altered state of mind. Music was an aid to develop the mind, spirit, emotions and sensitivity. In this modern age, different forms of music have developed. Until recent times music was used to tranquilize the agitations of the mind. – Swami Niranjananda Saraswati.

In the beginning was Brahman with whom was the Word. And the Word is Brahman. Vedas.
In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. – New Testament, The Gospel of St. John.

Hinduism and Christianity agree that in the beginning was the Word. There are many sounds: the sounds of the Cosmos, Primal Vibration, the Logos, the Music of the Spheres, the Word, the Tone and many more. All of these are included in the Sanskrit term Aum. Continue reading

450 – i carry your heart with me (i carry it in)

A poem about Radha and Krishna by E. E. Cummings.

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling) i fear

no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) Continue reading

431 – Plant a tree in your heart

Today I saw a two-thousand-year-old tree. It was one of the most beautiful sights and stood like a Guardian, gentle and protective of all who came to admire and respect it. It was in Mexico, in the town of El Tule. This tree is called El Arbor del Tule. It is considered the fattest tree in the world; its trunk is fourteen meters in diameter. It is a Montezuma Cypress and has the world’s widest trunk. People come and pay homage to it. Its threat is local urban growth and excessive irrigation. Continue reading

368 – Forgiveness

What do we know about forgiveness? It is a word used freely and frankly. We say sorry at the drop of a hat. Do we really feel sorry or is it just a word? How does one feel, when one says it. For most of us it is like saying have a nice day. If one says sorry with real emotion, then one will feel a change within oneself. Sorry is used in sarcasm, and it is expressed as a sneer. 333 – Four qualities we must cultivate

1. Discrimination, as described in the Bhagawad Gita (2:62-63) by Sri Krishna, “When one thinks of objects, attachment for them arises; from attachment desire is born; from desire anger arises; from anger comes delusion; from delusion loss of memory; from loss of memory the destruction of discrimination; from the destruction of discrimination, one perishes.” Continue reading

289 – Who was Swami Sivananda’s Guru?

Thursday is the day of the Guru? I asked myself this question, as must so many of you, “Who was Swami Sivananda’s Guru?” Swami Sivananda received mantra diksha from Parmahamsa Viswananda Saraswati, on the banks of the Ganga on 1st June 1924. Swami Sivananda was in quest of a Guru. Continue reading

258 – Let us dry the tears of Mother Earth

We have to make Mother Earth happy. We have made her unhappy and it is leading to our annihilation. If only all of us collectively stepped back and self-examined our thoughts and emotions, we will be surprised at the despair accumulated in us. It is this desolation and sadness which is leading to war, terrorism and brutalism. Continue reading

197 – Welcome to the spring: Holi, the Festival of Colors

Holi is the festival of color celebrated in India with joy and fervor. It is based on two stories. The first story is about Krishna. He was blue in color and he was very embarrassed about it. His color was blue because he had been poisoned by breast milk. He was sad as all the milk maids and Radha were a golden, brown color. He was demoralized and he thought that they would not find him handsome. He complained to his mother and she said, “Just color your face.” So he did that and threw color mixed with water on all the maidens. The Gopis (milk maids) enjoyed the frolic and throwing of color, and after that everybody started playing with color. Continue reading

195 – Mesmerizing colours

Who does not love the colours of the seasons? There is no misunderstanding and there are no clashes. In the Hindu tradition, we have different colours for different days of the week. There are numerous arguments on the subject. Continue reading

180 – Theft

When Lord Krishna was a baby, he loved butter. He could not stay away from the lovely white butter churned daily from the cows’ milk. Butter was made every day in the homes of the milk maids. And after finishing their tasks, they would go on to do their other chores. When they returned from the cowsheds, they found their butter pots empty. It was a shock for them as butter was used for making ghee and cooking. Continue reading
